How to install new contributed modules in Drupal

How to install contributed modules (i.e. modules which are not core Drupal modules). I had to read around to find this, I did just about find it (but it wasn't too clear) so I've included the steps here:

For each module, preferably do it one module at a time to make sure it works before you add another.

1) Download the installation file

2) Read the installation instructions just in case there's anything different in there.

3) Extract the files into a directory in public_html/sites/all/modules/ (don't put them in the main modules folder in www or public_html)

4) Once extracted, go into Drupal administration

5) Enable the module

6) Check the user permissions if any for the module and which roles can use the features of the module

7) Go to module administration and select the correct settings

Check it works - it's (usually) that simple

Some of the better documented modules include full installation instructions, some are less clear. Ideally, this should be nicely documented and easy to find on Drupal.org
