Re-branding of other sites

I've been busy on a few other sites recently.

I took the decision to start splitting out the information on Award Sounds into more specific sites.

alancward.co.uk features my photography and I'll continue to post photography-related articles over at that site from now on. I'm just building up that site now, so it may be a bit sparse this week.

Issue with RSS Feed

We've still got issues with the RSS feed from this site since the upgrade to Drupal 6.

The first article shows correctly in the feed and then becomes repeated, often replacing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th articles and so on.

Since the Feedburner feeds are due to be moved across to Google Feeds anyway, I'm going to disable the Feedburner module for the time being and revert back to Drupal's built-in RSS feeds.

Awesome Amps

Some of my other activities have led me to produce a Proof-of-Concept for another project. It's called Awesome Amps and has proven how quickly I can get a multi-site Drupal installation up and running.

The Concept

The idea started as part of the gift ideas for guitarists series. I was thinking of money-is-no-object amplifiers. As well as that, it fits with the activities over at Earn More Than Before.

Missing out on the detail - How To Be Musically Creative

It's odd what you don't notice when looking at the detail.

I used to check my site stats every couple of days. I knew this wouldn't continue, but I've had some fun trying to guess what readers were actually searching for, despite the search terms entered.

Part of the reason I wanted to move away from looking at them so often is that I quickly lost sight of what brought readers to this site. I could see from day to day, but not what counts over a few months.

Angled brackets were being stripped with Ecto and Drupal 6

Following the upgrade to Drupal 6, I noticed an awkward error when publishing content from my desktop editor (Ecto 3). From what I've read, it will affect any editor that uploads content via the blog api integrated in Drupal 6.

How to resolve:

It looks like it's down to the version of libxml2 and php involved. You can either:

  1. Upgrade php & libxml2 if you have access to the server or
  2. Patch the xmlrpc.inc file in the includes folder of your Drupal 6 installation.

I went with option 2 and it's not as scary as it sounds.

Upgrade Issues

This is the log of issues resulting from the recent upgrade from Drupal 5.x to Drupal 6.x. The issues are relatively minor and so the site is still live and mostly working.

Upgrade to Drupal 6

It's been a while coming. I was waiting for some modules to become available before this site was upgraded.

I've been excited by what I've seen in Drupal 6 for some time now, especially having triggers built into the core system. That could be very useful.

Most of the site works now, there are a couple of issues that would have needed to have been fixed for other reasons anyway (e.. RSS subscriptions via Feedburner since it's moving to Google Feeds).

Most Popular Articles at Award Sounds

Here's an intro to the most popular articles at Award Sounds. I'm surprised by some of them and happy to see others.

Blog Start

Thought I'd start a blog on this site. There are a few blog articles already, but that's just because of how I was using the site before I figured out what I wanted to do with it.

These posts won't always be published to the front page. Depends if I think it's relevant to the site at large.

Progress Update

Wow, I knew I've been busy on other tasks for a week or so, but I hadn't realised it had been over 4 weeks since my last post. That's the first time I've had a gap of this size since I started out with this site.
